Moe ( pronounced "mo-eh"/ literally 'budding', as with a plant )
A Japanese term used in connection with manga or anime to describe the ideal of youthful and innocent femininity. Written with the kanji for "to bud or sprout" ( 萌 ), the concept covers a narrow range of ideal behaviour for youthful female characters in manga or anime. To be properly moe, a character must be eager or perky, not overly independent, and call forth a desire in the viewer to protect them and nurture them.
The most common features include youthfulness as a physical trait ( young age ) or as an emotional trait ( naive or innocent outlook ) and some obvious sympathetic weakness the character works hard to correct. ( Much like Chii in Chobits )
However, most artists define moe not as a reference to a character so much as any personality that elicits a protective or loving response from the audience.
Now this isn't the usual way I like to draw my girls- but I have been doing some research into cosplay maids and maid cafes and have decided to make my latest skateboard with a Kawaii maid theme-
watch these two YouTube videos to see what I'm talking about...
Maid Cafe Part One
Maid Cafe Part Two
( I'm sorry I can't load them in a new window- don't forget to click back to see the 2nd clip )
I love Japanese culture and wonder how a maid cafe would go in Melbourne- probably horribly, they would put it on Kings Street and turn it into a strip joint!
Anyway- Enjoy and tell me what you think!
